Permitting & Compliance - Waste Management - Pesticide Management
A pesticide is any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any pest. The definition includes insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides, and antimicrobials.
In Florida the production, distribution, sale, use, storage, and disposal of pesticides is regulated by one federal and three Florida laws. These laws are:
- Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
- Florida Pesticide Law, Chapter 487 of the Florida Statutes
- Florida Structural Pest Control Act, Chapter 482 of the Florida Statutes
- Florida Mosquito Control Law, Chapter 388 of the Florida Statutes
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) is the regulatory branch for pesticide use in Florida.
Requirements for pesticide management at KSC can be found in the Kennedy NASA Procedural Requirements document KNPR 8500.1, Chapter 18. Organizations shall ensure that all pesticide management and application activities meet all Federal, State, and KSC requirements.
