ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM AT KSC

Permitting & Compliance - Waste Management - Energetic/Ordnance Waste

The NASA Environmental Assurance Branch (EAB) provides guidance to KSC organizations and contractors regarding the disposal of energetic/ordnance wastes. Depending on the net explosive weight of the energetic/ordnance waste item, the item may be shipped off-Center for disposal or disposed by open burning/open detonation at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Range (based on the availability of Air Force EOD technicians).

Energetic/ordnance wastes disposal at the CCAFS EOD Range must be coordinated through the NASA EAB. Off-site disposal of energetic/ordnance wastes must be coordinated through the NASA EAB and the KSC Waste Management Office.
