Sustainability - Green Purchasing

The KSC Green Purchasing Program supports KSC's compliance with sustainable practices through procurement of the following products in goods and services acquisitions:

  1. Biobased
  2. Environmentally preferable
  3. Recycled-content
  4. Energy-efficient, and
  5. Water-efficient

KSC's Green Purchasing Program complies with Section 6002 of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Executive Order (EO) 13423Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management and NPR 8530.1Affirmative Procurement Program and Plan for Environmentally Preferable Products.

KSC Green Purchasing Annual Data Reporting

KSC reports the successes of its Green Purchasing Program through the annual RCRA Section 6002 report. Data for KSC are entered by civil servant and contract personnel into the NASA Environmental Tracking System (NETS) at the end of each fiscal year. The Agency consolidates Center data and submits an Agency-level report to the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive (OFEE).

  • Executive Order 13423 – Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management
  • Federal Acquisition Subpart 23.4 - This subpart prescribes policies and procedures for acquiring US EPA CPG designated products through Affirmative Procurement Programs required by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA) and Executive Order 13101
